Our staff team offers expert information and support, in person at our Outreach Office or over the phone.
Our Crisis Intervention Team
Our Crisis Intervention Team includes a Senior Intervention and MARAC Co-coordinator and a Specialist Peripatetic Worker. We also have two peripatetic workers. These staff provide support 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, in person, over the phone, in the community, via our women’s group.
Our team has immense experience of working with individuals in crisis and can provide advice and support around personal safety, security, legal options and housing, regardless of whether an individual is still in an abusive relationship, is planning on leaving or has recently left the relationship, or is experiencing the longer-term after-effects of Domestic Abuse/Violence, Coercive Control or Stalking.
What it means for you when accessing support:
You can refer to us to receive support and help, via another organisation or you can just ring up or email, to arrange an appointment. You can also turn up at our outreach office based at 32 Station Road, Llanelli, SA15 1AN and be seen quite quickly: Monday to Friday 9am-4pm. You would undertake an assessment by qualified and experienced staff. Your needs would be assessed in a non-judgemental and empathetic way. From this a support plan is formed and agreed with you. The support plan is tailored to meet your needs and can cover a variety of issues including housing, benefits, debts, legal, health and children’s issues.
You would be allocated a key worker who will meets with you weekly ( or if more appropriate more or less) to help with:
- Safety planning;
- Building self-confidence and independence;
- Advice on housing rights and responsibilities;
- Welfare rights and legal support;
- Accompanying to court;
- Assistance when applying for DSS grants and loans;
- Help with budgeting, paying bills and debts;
- Resettlement skills, such as shopping and cooking;
- Assistance in finding work, paid or unpaid, or getting the right training;
We can, if you wish, also signpost you to other appropriate agencies, for example police and social services, etc. We can support you with these appointments.
The Floating Support Project is a countywide project between Calan DVS Amman Valley, Carmarthen Domestic Abuse Services and Threshold DAS and is managed by Threshold DAS.
Support you might need in Person
We can arrange one-to-one support sessions, and give information and support about the options available to you if you are experiencing domestic abuse. We offer a ‘drop-in’ facility at our Information Centre in Llanelli. The service is open to women, men and anyone identifying with the LGBT+ spectrum who are experiencing domestic abuse.
Where appropriate, we help women to access refuge accommodation, either within our own refuge if it is safe to do so or out of borough if this is more appropriate or if we haven’t got any available space. The refuge provision in Llanelli is women only and is called Llanelli WA Refuge.
Our support staff can also offer advice over the phone during office hours (Monday-Friday 9am-4pm).
Outside of office hours, during holiday periods and over the weekend, our 24-hour helpline can be used for urgent information and support around safety and housing options, access to refuge, and for emotional support (365 days a year). An appointment can be arranged in the evening or on the weekend, if needed.
The Live Fear Free helpline also has a national helpline that can be accessed 24 hours, 365 days of the year. This is a bilingual service. They too can offer emotional support, give practical information and signpost to other services. To access their website please click here.
The Live Fear Free Helpline can also provide information relating to accessing refuges across the UK. The contact number for them is 0808 80 10 800 (this is a free number from a landline and mobile and doesn’t show up on your telephone bill).
MARAC
As part of our partnership approach to tackling domestic abuse, our Crisis Intervention team coordinates the organisation’s response to high-risk victims by participating in the fortnightly MARAC (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference). If your case is being sent to MARAC, staff would explain to you what is happening and why we have taken that decision.
Coffee Mornings
Coffee mornings are run on a weekly basis in Llanelli on a Wednesday morning in the main outreach office. These usually start at 10.30 and shall be recommencing on September 13th.
Any individual can attend these groups; not just those who have experienced Domestic Abuse.
Outreach Support
The Outreach Service supports individuals who live in the community. The service provides information to enable individuals to look at their options and make informed decisions about their lives.
If more structured support is required, we will provide you with a referral to the Floating Support service. Outreach support involves supporting individuals to find alternative accommodation when it is not safe for them to return home, contacting solicitors for emergency injunctions and providing information on issues such as benefits, housing, court appearances, acting as an advocate and children’s issues. All individuals and children who are experiencing, or have recently experienced domestic abuse can access our support.
Three years ago, saw the introduction of the WISH Project, which has provided many and varied accredited courses for all women that access the service. Furthermore, we have held coffee mornings, activities and counselling. These opportunities give individuals a chance to share experiences and gain strength from each other.
