Universal Credit makes things even harder for victims of domestic abuse

MPs have stated Universal Credit allows abusers to control their family finances.

As Universal Credit payments are only made to one person per household which can often leave victims and children dependent on the abuser, making it even harder to break the cycle of abuse.

Evidence was brought forward suggesting that a victim could see their entirely monthly income, including money for any children, go straight into the abusers account. This stranglehold means that many victims are left without the financial means to flee safely from their captors.
