Naomi’s Story

“I fled my home because of severe domestic abuse and I had to send my daughter to live with my older son as I was also battling cancer at the time so I was unable to care for her. I had already had a difficult upbringing as I was a victim of child sexual abuse and I was unsure how to deal with everything. My partner physically and emotionally abused me too which is why I reached out to Women’s Aid.

“I was a victim of child sexual abuse and I was unsure how to deal with everything. My partner physically and emotionally abused me”

I was assigned a support worker who met with me and helped create a support plan that fitted my individual needs. Together she helped me work on my self-esteem, confidence and emotional needs. Along with helping deal with the recent abuse, my support worker helped me cope with my past abuse too through referring me to a counsellor. Furthermore, my worker helped me secure new housing away from my partner and she helped put a safety plan in place.

Thanks to the help and support offered by my support worker and the counsellor I feel much stronger and more independent making me better equipped to deal with the abuse I suffered. I now feel safe and am able to have my daughter living with me again. Now I can move on with my life.”
