Background to LIMITLESS
Four years ago, at a team meeting, it was agreed that Threshold DAS needed to find a way of not only offering support and safety to women but also a way of offering them opportunities to turn their lives around. We were seeing more and more women coming back to Threshold – some with a different alleged perpetrator, some who had been in refuge as children but were now victims/survivors requiring support, and others looking for meaningful training opportunities to help them move forward with their lives.
In 2013 we launched the educational arm of Threshold DAS. Threshold DAS are very fortunate that we currently hold a number of Educational and Employability contracts that support those who are unemployed and economically inactive, however, we found that there were many women who wanted to access our courses who were ineligible.
And so LIMITLESS was born.
LIMITLESS will be launched in 2019 after a seven month mobilisation period. LIMITLESS will take referrals immediately, but courses will not start until 1st May 2019. Please email in the first instance to LIMITLESS@Threshold-Das.org.uk
LIMITLESS is an educational programme of support funded by the Welsh European Social Fund.
Women 18 and over, who are working, or on a zero hour contract are eligible. Women have to be living or working in Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent. With the delivery of the volunteering qualification, they can also be living or working in Torfaen.
LIMITLESS is made up of three strands.
Strand 1: WEB: Women Exploring Business Programme
WEB course is designed to inspire women to set up their own business. It is an eight-day practical programme (one day per week) that provides women with the tools to set up a service or develop a product. They learn about all aspects of self-employment including marketing, accounts, pricing etc. On day seven they will have the opportunity to go out into the community and sell the product or service they have developed. We will hire a market stall for them to do this. The programme also allows them to achieve two Agored Cymru Qualifications, at a range of academic levels.
Strand 2: WISH: Women’s Integrated Support Hub
WISH will offer individually tailored support packages to build confidence and self-esteem. WISH offers a large range of courses across different subject areas; much of this training is currently delivered through Threshold and will be open to participants of LIMITLESS. However, we are dedicated to providing a learner-centred curriculum and we are happy to deliver training based on the wishes and suggestions of the women themselves.
Examples include: Volunteering, Salsa, Community Development, Jewellery Making, Mindfulness, Pottery, Photography, Retail, Education, Customer Service etc
WISH is open to all women regardless of their backgrounds, needs or abilities. The courses range from Entry Level 3 up to Level 4 (and possibly 5).
Strand 3: Qualification: Supporting the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Sector through Volunteering
LIMITLESS will develop a qualification at levels 2 and 3 (Award and Extended Award) aimed at volunteers working in the sector. This will include survivors and ex-service users but will also be available to others working in the sector who are interested in getting into support work. We hope that it will complement the plans of the VAWDASV team to develop a National Survivor Engagement Framework.
What Limitless will offer
LIMITLESS will aim to support its participants with:
- a wide range of accredited modules and qualifications,
